"For a power producer, Mesh provides the opportunity to discover critical factors that may affect physical and commercial conditions for their assets at an early stage. For instance, by avoiding production losses or by acting at the speed needed to effectively trade in intraday markets," says product owner at Powel, Åsmund Botnen.
Built-in time series calculation engine
The basic solution makes it easier to structure data in your own logical hierarchy. The hierarchy is built from custom defined object types related to each other in an object model. Time series and properties can be created and connected to the objects. Properties can be of many types, for example be numerical values, time points, boolean, XYZ tables, rating curves and text.
The unique feature of Powel Mesh is a built-in time series calculation engine with a rich function library and compact syntax definition.
"Experiences from our innovation project has demonstrated that Mesh can reduce the amount of stored time series by between 40- and 90 percent. In addition, there is a large reduction in the amount of calculation expressions needed for advanced analytics and reporting," says Botnen.
Powel provides predefined object models for several business domains, asset types and markets as a foundation for integrated simulation cores. Customers can extend these models to adapt to their own needs.
When you have designed your business system with relevant object and data types, you can start creating your physical model by adding specific names to the objects. To these objects, you can connect physical time series, physical links and unique property values. The object properties can be used in time series calculations and in object search criteria.
"Nimbus gives Mesh a very user-friendly framework with good overview of your physical system and easy access to your data," says Botnen.
Complete virtual system
The object-oriented model is well suited for setting up time series reports and time series calculations rules as template definitions. This means changing from a time series centric and scheduled approach, to a complete virtual system.
"Changes done in a model or templates will automatically affect the whole system. This assures a more efficient setup, maintenance and consistent results throughout the whole system," says the product owner.
Mesh is a data management solution which is tightly integrated with most of Powel`s production planning, optimisation and trading solutions.
