Uniqe expertise and cloud services enables Powel to punch its way into new markets

Unparalleled process competencies and speed of delivery using Microsoft Dynamics 365 gives Powel the competitive edge.

Powel AS is proud to announce the delivery of a new, cloud-based solution to Wärtsilä Oil & Gas Systems AS in Norway, marking our first foray into this branch of the energy sector. The solution, Powel PunchMaster, was successfully implemented in record time. It will assist Wärtsilä in conducting quality inspections and efficiently handle deviations on gas cooling systems in an international market.

Building on our expertise in digitalisation and automation, as well as configuration of inspection and workflow management solutions in a variety of markets, Powel continues to innovate through improving field services for our clients. Wärtsilä is a global leader in advanced technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets.

“The PunchMaster from Powel is really well suited to our needs and overall it was the best offering for us. We expect the solution will make our working day more efficient by simplifying our tasks and lessening our workload, whilst still ensuring high quality inspections. The cooperation with Powel has worked very well and we are excited to start utilising this solution fully,” says Aslak Casén, Global Manager Fabrication, Installation and Commissioning, Wärtsilä Oil & Gas Systems AS.

The Powel PunchMaster is a cloud-based solution that can be used both in the office and out in the field. The solution is based on a standardised and proven project methodology, where a deviation is referred to as a “punch” and is followed up in a “punch follow-up” structure. It supports both the administrative process of setting up structures for projects and inspections, defining checklists, staffing projects according to areas of expertise, and the actual inspection process itself.

The solution provides support for all required steps of a quality inspection, including handling any discrepancies or faults. The mobile app allows for simple step-by-step quality inspections in the field and includes an offline functionality ensuring that insufficient or costly internet connection never becomes an issue. Statistics and management information have been key areas during delivery and easily understandable statistics shown in dashboards form part of the solution.

“The delivery to Wärtsilä goes a long way in proving that the competency and expertise Powel possesses can easily can be transferred to other business areas. Simultaneously, the experience and solutions we develop offers synergies towards Powel’s core business areas. With close partnerships with major technology companies such as Microsoft, we continue to drive digital transformation through innovation in a number of different sectors,” says Ståle Nilsen, Business Manager, Powel Service Solutions.

The solution utilises the Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform with the field service module. The 365 platform helps speed up development with a new generation of tools and methods. Much of the functionality in the solution utilises existing functionality in the platform. Extensive configuration combined with a few custom-made plug-ins make up the complete solution. The entire project was completed in a month and a half, including tests and training, and delivery was approved by Wärtsilä late April.
