Powel calculator is an integrated part of all Powel products within production planning and optimisation, forecasting and trading of power producers. In Mesh it is tightly connected to the Mesh object model which is well suited for setting up time series calculations as template expressions.
"This means more efficient set up and maintenance and ensures consistent results throughout the system, says product owner in Powel," Åsmund Botnen.
To set up a calculation expression in Powel Calculator with Powel Mesh as a data foundation, you refer to time series types and property types from the object model, instead of physical time series and concrete values. This is specified as a navigation path or a model search from the target time series location. The target time series holds the calculation result in the same way as for virtual time series in the existing Time Series Manager.
"A calculation definition is applied to all the time series of the same type by use of one template definition. This makes the work process a lot easier for the users and they increase the data quality," says Botnen.
Automatic control of large amount of data
Powel Mesh provides functions for automatically control and correction of a large amount of data based on predefined methods and criteria which increase the quality of the data in an efficient way.
"The energy market must act faster and the flow of data increases in a rapid pace. This makes Powel Calculator and other digital solutions from Powel even more important in the time to come," says Botnen.
Set up of reports are also done in Powel Calculator. A template report is made by referring to time series types from an object model. When you select a physical object as start point in the tree view in Powel Nimbus, this report applies to its local or associated time series defined by the object model.
"You can use the same template report for multiple levels in the related part of the model. This limits the number of required reports and maintenance work dramatically," concludes Botnen.
