For more than 20 years, Powel has helped ensure that providers of vital societal infrastructure can utilise resources in an efficient and secure way. Today, Norway is among the most environmentally friendly energy producers in the world, and Powel has been part of the technological journey that has made this possible. We have also been an important contributor to the fact that you and I can drink clean water straight from the tap, have electricity in every plug, light and heat in our houses and travel safely on the roads.
The green shift
In the future, Powel will spearhead the green shift with innovative solutions that help increase the use of renewable energy. Cutting edge expertise within industrial IT, combined with our understanding of innovation and business, makes Powel a solid, growing international company. Our clients are energy companies, grid operators, construction companies, water supply companies and the public sector. Extensive experience, combined with professional expertise and focus on innovation, has made Powel a resource centre as well as a software provider.
Major European clients
Powel was founded in Norway in 1996 and has since grown to become an international group with more than 1,300 customers in more than 20 countries. In the same period, we have become a leading supplier of innovative software solutions to energy producers and traders throughout Europe.
We currently have major customers such as Uniper, RWE, Luminus, E. ON, Enel and Axpo in our portfolio. Our ability to create profitability while taking care of the environment has been our greatest competitive advantage.
“We have a history and track record which shows that our clients can achieve a top line growth of five percent using our solutions. Our aim is to take the next step to achieving a further five percent through improved prognoses, automation and better market operations", says Stefan Zähringer, Vice President Sales at Powel.
Monitors the power grid in real time
The energy industry is undergoing rapid change with the green shift, smart power and sensor technology. Powel has expert tools that enable grid companies to design, maintain, control, analyse and monitor the power grid in real time. We also have the knowledge and technology to streamline work processes with simple cloud-based solutions.
Ensures clean drinking water
Powel has not only contributed to the digitalisation of the energy industry, but also the municipal sector. This digitalisation began with documentation and management of water and wastewater networks and has grown to include software solutions for effective communication between the municipality and residents, as well as support for the municipalities’ follow up of the sections of the water and wastewater network that are owned by private actors.
“Digitalisation of the water industry is the most important tool for dealing with leakages, water loss and poor water quality,” says Eirik Aartun, product manager for Water Alert at Powel.
Market leader with Norwegian-developed 3D tools
Powel has also experienced strong growth in the road and construction industry. Powel is a market-leading provider of the 3D tool Gemini Terrain, which is used on most infrastructure projects in Norway. We also provide other digital services, which together give you complete control of your construction project.
Software for Sustainable Growth
Powel’s slogan is "Software for Sustainable Growth" and it expresses the core of our business - we deliver software where the fundamental value is to create sustainable growth. Growth is achieved by helping society to use its resources efficiently and by helping our clients to grow in an environmentally sensible way. At the same time, it is about helping our clients to become financially and commercially robust by providing solutions and services that streamline operations, safeguard corporate social responsibility and strengthen market reputation.
"Software for sustainable growth is at the heart of what we offer our clients and society. It is a slogan we can stand for and which we are proud to live out in our daily work. We want to make a difference," says Trond Straume, CEO of Powel.
