The energy industry is undergoing rapid change with the green transformation, smart power and sensor technology. Powel has expert tools that enable grid companies to design, maintain, control, analyse and monitor the power grid in real time. We also have the knowledge and technology to streamline work processes with simple cloud-based solutions.
“The best way to streamline the grid companies of the future is to make the information available where it is needed. This will ensure good communication, and efficient and secure data management,” says the business manager at Powel, Richard Schytte.
Emphasis on usability
Powel has software solutions based on geographic information systems (GIS) with an emphasis on usability. They support various areas, including power grids, district heating, gas and fibre. The aim is to help customers streamline their work processes while managing energy distribution in a secure way.
Lyse Elnett recently adopted an automated digging notice system developed by Powel, which will save heavy case-handling costs for the utility company and a lot of time and frustration for contractors. Read the full article here:
“The aim is for 70 to 80 per cent of the inquiries to be answered automatically. That means receiving an immediate reply to the digging notice,” says Eivind Aasland of Lyse Elnett.
One of Powel’s most recent initiatives is the “Field Hero” concept, which is based on digitising and changing the work processes for utility workers out in the field. With the Network Collector application, the workers can easily record and document work done on a mobile phone. In this way, they do away with paper and tedious transfers between multiple data systems.
“Our utility workers have wanted to work more digitally for a long time. Now they finally have the opportunity to document the work they carry out themselves. They are really pleased and feel they can work more independently and that errors are resolved more quickly than before,” says Øivind Askvik, Group Managing Director at Skagerak Nett, who are constantly looking for ways of streamlining the way they work.
“We strongly believe that there is much to gain from digitalising our work processes, particularly for those working out in the field,” says Askvik.
Better communication with external partners
Grid companies collaborate with external installers and contractors regarding maintenance and upgrading of the power grid. Elsmart is a market-leading case-handling solution, which streamlines interaction between players. It has over 20,000 users and is the leading solution for Nordic grid companies today.
“Elsmart has significantly simplified the working day of utility companies. The system has made it possible to use external installers to resolve many critical work tasks and also ensure good documentation and quality control afterwards,” says Thøger Amundsen, Powel’s product manager for Elsmart.
Elsmart is a SaaS (Software as a Service) solution, which makes the solution easier to operate and maintain. Users can also access all relevant information out in the field as user-friendly apps have been developed with good mapping and reporting functionality. An installer can, for example, accurately document the position of an installation directly on the map and also take pictures of the work done.
Advanced electricity meters require good IT solutions
Our ADMS solution has been developed in close collaboration with Norwegian grid companies and has resulted in many of the largest grid companies in Norway using our solution.
Nukissiorfiit has introduced an ambitious strategy for enhancing GIS (the Geographic Information System) as the central repository for web documentation and business process support. The strategy was implemented throughout the organisation, with Powel as an external partner.
