Victoria, BC (DATE) - Powel-MiniMax, an industry leader in providing innovative hydroelectric management software, today announced that Alaska Electric Light & Power (AEL&P) has elected to upgrade their HYDROPS system and include a hydrologic forecasting model. The upgrade was considered necessary to manage growing electrical demand and a new hydroelectric facility that is currently under development.
The AEL&P system includes several hydro plants and thermal plants. Snettisham is their largest hydro facility that provides more than 80% of the needed energy. Powel-MiniMax developed the HYDROPS Long-term Storage Management model to help AEL&P improve the weekly operations of Long Lake and Crater Lake reservoirs to minimize the costly diesel operations. The project includes analysis of hydrologic data, modeling, and implementing the hydrologic forecast model.
“AEL&P’s decision to upgrade their HYDROPS optimization software not only meets their short-term goals, but it also takes into account their long-term planning when new demand and new facilities are required,” said Tung Van Do, Powel-MiniMax’s project manager.
“We are looking forward to working with AEL&P again and are excited at the prospect of providing our newer model with .Net programming language,” said Tim Perkins, Powel-MiniMax’s Director of Business Development.
