Powel has become a central partner in the implementation of Microsoft’s cloud platform Azure, with several strategic customers across Europe. Through its innovative culture, the company is now the software provider with the most Azure apps in Microsoft’s AppCatalog.
Powel has continued to focus on developing its cooperation and partnership with Microsoft since the company became a Managed ISV Partner with Microsoft. Earlier this summer, the company received the “Årets Programvarehus” (Software provider of the year) award from Microsoft Norway.
Powel is continuing to work closely with the Microsoft team to implement the Azure platform across its product portfolio. Through the cooperation with Microsoft, Powel can now offer even better opportunities to customers seeking forward-looking and innovative solutions.
Now the commitment is further strengthened with the appointment of Kevin Gjerstad in the role of CTO (Chief Technology Officer) with a special focus on cloud solutions. Gjerstad joins Powel from the position as Cloud Solution Architect & Technical Evangelist in Microsoft Norway. He has more than 20 years experience in IT, most of which he has spent in various roles in Microsoft.
“We have chosen to create the position of CTO Cloud as part of our dedication to innovation within mobility and cloud. We have invested heavily in this area already with good results and we are now implementing solutions for customers both in Norway as well as internationally. At the same time, it is clear that this area will only become larger and more important. This is why we choose an even more targeted approach. We are very happy that Gjerstad has accepted this position. With his international expertise and experience within technological development in general and his knowledge of Microsoft platforms in particular, we are in a stronger position than ever in this area,” says Powel’s CEO Bård Benum.
Gjerstad brings with him years of experience in technology development and leadership, innovation and entrepreneurship. Before moving to Norway, he spent many years working at Microsoft’s Redmond head office developing and delivering key parts of flagship products to millions of users. Additionally, he has deep insight and knowledge of cloud solutions, big data, analytics, machine learning and the Internet of Things.
“I am very much looking forward to playing a significant role in driving cloud projects and cloud competency at Powel. As CTO, I will have the opportunity to leverage and challenge my full range of skills and experience, bringing innovative cloud solutions to the market. The energy and utilities space is poised for massive transformation and I believe cloud technology and Microsoft Azure in particular will play a key-enabling role for Powel,” says Gjerstad.
Gjerstad starts in his new role on 1. October.
