For the 23rd time, the annual Gemini User Conference was arranged from 11. – 13. May. The location this time was the Clarion Hotel & Congress in Trondheim, where Powel welcomed 260 of our customers.
We started things off on Sunday with a pre-event, a boat trip to the small islet of Munkholmen outside Trondheim. We were joined by 120 customers as well as entrepreneur and professor Sjur Dagestad, who shared his thoughts on innovation with those gathered.
The theme for this year’s conference was Close Up, and in his welcoming speech, Powel CEO Bård Benum spoke about the importance for Powel to be close to our customers, both nationally and internationally, and to be close to technology trends and developments.
The Gemini solutions have 30 years of history in serving the needs of municipalities and contractors, and several large-scale projects have come to life with the support of Gemini software.
During the conference, visitors had the chance to hear what experiences existing customers have had. The municipality of Stavanger spoke about how Gemini Messenger have helped them communicate better with the inhabitants, while Terratec shared their experiences about using Gemini Contractor as a tool in various prestigious projects.
A large demo area gave customers a chance to take a closer look at our solutions and ask questions. In addition, we launched our new web portal myPowel and presented our array of courses. Several external exhibitors also joined us.
As in previous years, we presented one of our customers with our Innovation Award. The award goes to someone who we feel have excelled in their field, and this year it was awarded to the municipality of Stavanger.
This year’s winner have been active in the development of Mivareg, the predecessor to Gemini VA, right from the very beginning in 1984. He has been an active user of Gemini ever since. The jury emphasised the municipality’s involvement in the development of the solution, saying that “Stavanger has been a challenging and valuable collaborator, contributing with input and advice throughout this journey.”
Stavanger was at the forefront of actively involving their customers in their operations, which resulted in Powel developing an internet solution for Gemini Melding. Today this is a standard module, used by many municipalities. Further, the winner of the award was also the very first of our customer to start using Gemini Portal.
The winner received 15,000 NOK to donate to a charitable organisation of their choice, and decided on “Water changes everything” that aims to secure permanent access to clean water for one million people.
We, at Powel, hope that all visitors had a useful and interesting conference with industry colleagues and we would also like to extend a great thanks to all exhibitors.
The date for next year’s conference is 10. – 12. May.
We look forward to seeing you again then!
