Powel Smart Metering Suite utilizes a service-oriented architecture (SOA) as a means of providing utilities with strategic flexibility and low cost of ownership through integrating legacy applications. In addition, Powel’s role-based interface ensures operational efficiency at all levels in the organization.
Powel Smart Metering Suite can automatically collect meter data from virtually any utility meter, sub-meter or communication device using open protocols from more than 30 different meter types. Adapter modules for electricity, heat, water, and gas accommodate the wide variety of protocols available industry-wide, enabling utilities to operate and manage their heterogeneous metering network with one single system. New protocols can be developed quickly due to the system’s flexible and expandable architecture. Supported communication technologies include PSTN, LAN/ WAN, GSM, TCP/IP, M-bus, mesh radio, GPRS, PLC and others. Infrastructure can be point-to-point, concentrator based, or mesh network.
Real time validation of collected data, estimation, analysis, balance reports, and export of data for billing are out of the box available functionalities. Powel Smart Metering Suite is specifically designed to handle large-scale deployments and provides utilities with the accuracy, flexibility and scalability needed for their smart metering programs. Web services to SAP MDUS are foreseen for easy integration to SAP’s billing platform.
New smart grid functionality can easily be configured allowing utilities to manage strategic and regulatory issues today – and in the future. Integrated business process management tools provide the agility and control utilities need to make full use of new technical and commercial possibilities.
The software runs in a Web client configuration based on a communication server and an Oracle database platform. To enhance security, role-based access rights can be set for individual users and user groups.
