Powel AS was established in 1996 as a spin-off from the Norwegian Electric Power Research Institute (EFI), a part of the SINTEF Group. Since 1950s, EFI has conducted research and scientific analysis on behalf of the Norwegian Generators and Transmission & Distribution companies. The introduction of IT and software applications for optimizing business processes started during the early 1970s. In the mid 1990s, SINTEF's software solutions had become widely used within the Norwegian Power Industry prompting the EFI Board to establish Powel Data AS to commercialize its software products.
Since 1996, Powel AS has gone from being part of the academic community at SINTEF/NTNU in Trondheim to being a world-leading software supplier to the energy sector. From a company with 37 employees we have become an international corporation with a staff numbering 240, comprised of developers, consultants, and service personnel with extensive knowledge of the industry. Our competence is in demand and utilized for a variety of applications in energy markets worldwide. We develop and tailor our products to meet the needs of each selected market. Our goal always remains the same; to create systems that provide rapid profit improvement, cost management, operating efficiency, and customer service for all our stakeholders, as well as good, close and long-term cooperation with customers and partners.
